ADULT LEAGUE TEAM POLICY

Fall & Winter: Teams will be formed as evenly as possible with the collaboration of the concerned team captains and the tennis director. Doubles partners will remain together.

Summer: Members will form their own teams.

Adult league play for non members

Outside players are occasionally allowed in order to help fill our own teams. They can attend one round robin a week during league, but no workouts. A brand new team members who has NEVER attended a workout can attend one time, paying the guest rate ($23). Cost $50 for first season.

The Team Principle

Over the last year, I have learned a lot about adult USTA league team dynamics mainly because the club has grown and we have more than one team at a given level. I have always tried to stay out of the way, not tell people what to do and who they should play with. I got involved into the politics of league play because I operated with the belief that it is my responsibility that everyone involved enjoys the experience and if any member is unhappy with a situation, then it is my duty to fix it.

Obviously I was not able to reach that goal. After one year of trying I decided to call all the clubs in the area and see what their policies are in regards to league play.

Here are their policies:

Gold’s Gym & Eagle Ridge

  • Members form their own team.

Sportsmall & Cottonwood Club:

  • Fall & Winter league: team are formed by the adult coordinator as evenly as possible.
  • Summer league: Members form their own team.

I believe that a lot of problems would have been avoided if we had a policy in place. After serious consideration, here is our policy for league play at Ivory Ridge Tennis Club:

Fall & Winter: Teams will be formed as evenly as possible with the collaboration of the concerned team captains and the tennis director. Doubles partners will remain together.

Summer: Members will form their own teams.

I hope that all members will find this policy fair and clear.
